TESTIMONIALS

" Freckles, my 15 hand section D cob has always had a tendency to pull her head to the right, particularly on the left rein in the arena. After one lesson cantering in tight left hand circles Freckles became lame. Box rest improved the condition she was no longer lame but still very stiff on the left rein.

The first Bowen treatment made a huge difference in her flexibility. We followed up with two more treatments. I and other riders noticed how much looser she had become and was much more comfortable to ride.We no longer have to spend a large part of the lessons getting her head straight.

It was obvious that Freckles enjoyed the treatments and became very relaxed throughout them. Claire was very professional and took time to explain what she was doing and how the treatment worked. "

" I first contacted Claire after a vet had recommended Bowen therapy for one of my horses, Boris, who has arthritis in his neck. He had previously been seen by several physios, osteopaths and chiropractors with little or no success. After his first treatment I saw a great improvement in his movement and flexibility and he has continued to improve over time. Since then Claire has become an essential part of my horse’s management routine. Boris has a ‘top-up’ every so often, but over the last 4 years she has also treated my horses for various injuries, stiffness and sweet itch very successfully.

I have intermittent back pain after two quite severe car accidents and have also had limited success with osteopaths and physios. So I asked Claire if she could treat me too. I was amazed at the improvement after just one session and now have treatments as routine. All sorts of stiffnesses and issues that I had been struggling with have now disappeared and I really get a boost from each treatment.

I have recommended Claire to see many of my clients whose horses are struggling with ‘unknown’ problems and am constantly impressed that she can find and help issues that have previously been overlooked. She has a very kind and relaxed attitude to the horses she sees and as a result she has been able to treat very fearful or aggressive horses where others cannot. "

" I first contacted Claire in April 2008 after reading about Bowen Therapy. My horse a 16.2 Trakehner (11 at the time) had been diagnosed with Navicular the previous year, and my Vet had actually written him off. We had tried remedial shoeing and it made him worse, so I decided to take him barefoot. It took about 6 months for his hooves to completely regrow and with careful diet and exercise he became sound. Although he wasn't lame he was quite stiff and he obviously had lots of issues with his body compensating for the lameness.

I rang Claire she sounded really nice and was very positive and knowledgeable. She came to see him and was lovely handling him, and gave him a Bowen therapy, which he seemed to really enjoy. He had to have 3 in quite close succession. I found it really helped to loosen him and he started to move much better, more like his old self, so thank you Claire!!

Once Claire came I was really struggling myself with a bad back (I have degenerative disk disease and easily get sciatica) she did a few moves on my back while I was standing, the release was unbelievable!! I booked her to give me a proper session and it really worked wonders for my back. I have tried other things like physio and a chiropractor but the Bowen has definitely worked the best and is so relaxing.

Another time I was suffering with horrendous headaches and neck pain, I had been to the doctor and he had said it was muscular. I asked Claire to come and give me a Bowen session and it really helped to ease the pain. I felt much better after. Unfortunately I had a scan the week after and had actually had a small bleed on the brain but the Bowen had really helped me with the pain. "

" I have been receiving Bowen treatments on and off from Claire over the last year. I have to say I was very sceptical at first whether someone just touching you would have any effect whatsoever. I have found the Bowen treatments to be extremely beneficial however. At first the first couple didn’t really seem to do very much but now they are extremely powerful. Recently I have had a bad back and went to Clare to help me treat it. Within 1 treatment my back was better. Every time I now have a treatment I feel much straighter through my posture and feel much lighter in some way, as if I am walking on spring shoes. Bowen has also helped me with digestion problems ,headaches, hip and knee pain.

The treatment is not painful and is non invasive. I have also found it has supported me well as I take on the task of getting fit again at the gym. I’m very pleased with the outcome and would recommend others to give it a go. "

" I am a 44 yr old female who has had horses for the last 20+ years. I have had lower back problems for about the last 12 years and neck problems for 4 -5 years previous to this.

I first experienced sciatic pain in 2005 and was referred to the countess of Chester to see the consultant and have an MRI scan, this showed compression of the vertebrae causing the sciatic nerve to be trapped. This lasted a total of 24 weeks before the pain started to ease during this time I was taking a vast amount of tramadol pain killers just to get through the day.

In 2008 the pain came back even worse this time, once more I was referred to the countess of Chester hospital, where I had another MRI scan. This showed severe nerve damage caused by compressed vertebrae it was decided that I would have surgery to release and try to repair the nerve and to shave of some of the bone which was causing the nerve to become trapped. This went ahead in July 2009 an hour before my op the surgeon dropped the chance of success from 85% to 65% after a further study of the scan. After 3 months recovery all seemed to be going well and I returned to work and riding in the October 2009.

All seemed fine until the end of January 2010 when I woke in the middle of the night in more pain than I had ever felt. I went to see my gp who immediately referred me back to the countess of Chester and gave me back all my pain killers and more. At this point I was taking 8 tramadol, 8 paracetomol, 3 gabapentin, 2 naproxen and an anti sickness tablet daily.

I had yet another MRI scan at this point I decided to try Bowen therapy. I had experienced Bowen with one of my horses.

My first session an amazing experience and I remember thinking well if it doesn’t work at least it has sent me somewhere wonderful for 40 mins. After my first session I felt tired and just needed to sleep. I had weekly sessions which lasted approx 40 mins each and it was amazing after the first 3 sessions I was down to half a tablet a day. 3 weeks after my Bowen started I had to go and see the consultant for my MRI results, he couldn’t believe how good I felt and how I had no major pain. He discharged me telling me to continue doing what I was doing. I avoided more surgery.

He did acknowledge that Bowen theory was one of the therapies which often helped back problems.

I had regular Bowen until Oct 2010 all has been great I have had the odd twinge and im not completely pain free but I have the same level of pain that I had on 22 tablets a day, I feel better about myself, I'm able to do more active tasks and I'm in full control of my brain which I wasn’t when on the tablets.

I also suffered mild I.B.S, period pain, carpal tunnel and sinus trouble all of these have been helped by Bowen. "

C was diagnosed with acute Recurrent Exertional Rhabdomyolosis (RER) at the beginning of September; he had been suffering from a number of complaints that finally led to this diagnosis. He had dermatitis and lacked energy, I couldn't get him past a certain level of fitness this last year despite the previous year being able to do a 15 mile ride. I noticed there was a real problem when he would stop in the middle of competitions or feel uncomfortable going forward, he would become stiff but also show signs of colic. The vets gave him a muscle biopsy which revealed RER. By this time he was only able to be comfortably ridden for five minutes then after this time he would be panting and look as if he wanted to collapse. He was put on a high fat diet and I was advised to keep him out 24/7 on poor grazing. This helped a little but he still seemed to be deteriorating. I contacted Claire who had been recommended to me.

C did not seem to have any response whilst having the first treatment which had become his normal disposition (C was previously a very cheeky, naughty welsh cob who wanted to be near you and be fussed). A few days after the first treatment I started to notice a change. He appeared brighter, his legs that had filled regularly with his dermatitis, were fine. He had two more treatments and C was a changed horse. He has been back to the vets for tests since and his blood enzyme levels have been consistently normal. We have managed to get up to half an hour of exercise in the past month which is a massive change as at one point euthanasia had been considered.

C is behaving like a young healthy welsh cob once more and is quite possible even more cheeky and lively that he was before he was diagnosed. I would recommend Bowen therapy to anyone whose horse has been diagnosed with this condition.

C’s treatment is ongoing and he will always have this condition but I believe with a combination of management, diet and Bowen therapy he will lead a very normal life and I hope to be competing him again this summer.
